Global Learning FIU
My global experiences
Throughout my four years at FIU, hundreds of experiences impacted my career and life. These are the most memorable...

The Future of Tech Talent
In November 2021, I was one of the 20 students taking part in a three day fly-in seminar at FIU's D.C office. Together we my team, I proposed solutions to diversify the technology workforce to the White House, via development of more inclusive federal policy. I experienced eye opening conversations, participated in panels featuring leaders in tech, and formulated a mentorship program that will increase minority access to jobs in tech.
Research Internship
"Hatchling Success in Olive ridley Sea Turtles"
As a principal investigator and research intern, I conducted research in Sayulita, Mexico to determine whether Styrofoam containers can incubate sea turtle eggs, and study hatchling's viability. Today, only 1 in 1,000 sea turtle hatchlings reach adulthood, my hope is that our research can contribute to improve this figure. During my research, I also involved the local community to take part in hatchling releases and educated students about sea turtle conservation.

Future of Resilient Communities
I visited FIU in D.C. in October 2022 to take part in another fly-in series. This seminar focused on discussing about ways to improve resilience in a world threatened by extreme heat, natural disasters and energy problems. We visited the U.S Chamber of Commerce, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Interior, among other federal agencies and participated in interesting discussions to find ways to make south Florida more resilient.
Tuesday Times Roundtables
Participating in the series, Tuesday Times Roundtables presented by FIU's Global Learning in collaboration with The New York Times, allowed me to get exposure to so many topics beyond my major. I learned about women in engineering, water security, civil leadership, among many other subjects. TTR's were fundamental in the process of becoming a global learner, and I got to meet many fellows through them!
